WELCOME TO SHAHEED ZIAUR RAHMAN MEDICAL COLLEGE (SZMC)
Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura (Bengali: শহীদ জিয়াউর রহমান মেডিকেল কলেজ, বগুড়া) is a public medical college in the northern part of Bangladesh, started its glorious journey on 05 November1992. It is located in Bogura, a central district of North Bengal.
This medical college was established with the goal of flourishing medical education and to provide better healthcare services to the people of this area. It has been producing quality doctors, eminent researchers and health policy makers who are currently working in different medical sectors at home and abroad.
This institution has a beautiful academic building and a sophisticated multistoried teaching hospital named Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical college Hospital, situated in 40 acres of land.
Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College is affiliated with Rajshahi Medical University (RMU), (Previously, it was affiliated with Rajshahi University) for MBBS degree and for postgraduate degrees with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka. The course and curriculum are governed by the regulations of Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC).
The pre-clinical and para-clinical disciplines are located in the college building and clinical disciplines are located in the hospital building. Four large galleries, no: 1 (Samia Islam Gallery) 2 3 4, tutorial class rooms, dissection hall, practical class rooms, laboratories, museums, medical education unit, Medical skill center, autopsy morgue, seminar rooms, library (Air conditioned), Computer Lab. etc. are present in the college building. Class Rooms for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, Seminar rooms, library for postgraduate students are also present in the hospital building.
A Nuclear Medicine Centre, an auditorium, male and female dormitories, quaters for professors, associate professors, assistant professors, mid-level physicians, nursing officers and other staffs of both college and hospital are present in the campus. Year-mark residence for Principal and Director of hospital are also present in the campus.
Presently, the following courses are running in this medical college:
- A- 5 year MBBS Course > Affiliated with Rajshahi Medical University (RMU). Previously, it was affiliated with Rajshahi University > Total allocated seats: 200 per year from 2023-2024 session.

A 2-year post-graduate Diploma course in the following 07 disciplines, affiliated with BSMMU.
a. Anesthesia > DA: Total seats 15 per year.
b. Otolaryngology, HNS > DLO: Total seats 02 per year
c. Dermatology > DDV: Total seats 02 per year
d. Pediatrics > DCH: Total seats 06 per year
e. Ortho-Surgery > D Ortho.: Total seats 02 per year.
f. Cardiology > D Card.: Total seats 02 per year.
g. Obstetrics and Gynecology > DGO: Total seats 02 per year. - A 2-year M Phil course in Physiology > Affiliated with BSMMU: Total seats 02 per year.
- A 5-year MD Course in Medicine > Affiliated with BSMMU: Total seats 02 per year.

I feel great pleasure to welcome you in the website of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura. After establishment in 1992, SZMC&H has produced a number of doctors, surgeons, medical scientists and teachers who are engaged to serve health care facilities in the country as well as in the different parts of the world. This institution has the vision and plan for making it into one of the best multispecialty teaching hospital in Bangladesh. Charity to the poor and needy persons will be the part of services of the hospital.
SZMC is always committed to provide top class medical education, research activities and quality healthcare services in the country. The college runs the MBBS and post graduate courses. At present, MBBS course is permitted to admit 200 students per year. At present, there are about 860 local and 13 foreign students in undergraduate course and around 66 students in postgraduate course.
A good number of clinical material and an impressive very big library with thousands of relevant medical books and many foreign journals, apart from local ones are available. Safety hostels with all the facilities for a comfortable stay and healthy foods are available in the college canteen and dining room of the student hostel.
I have got all along support and co-operation from local administration as well as from different faculties, students and ministry of health to enrich the academic activities as well as overall improvements of this institute.
I hope Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital will play a pivotal role as a peripheral Medical College with a designation of Centre of Excellency not only for this region but also at the national level.
