History

Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College is a medical college and hospital located in Bogura, a central district in the northern part of Bangladesh. It is situated at Silimpur, on the outskirts of Bogura city, beside the Dhaka-Rangpur highway, 05 km south-east from Charmatha, Bogura (Central bus terminal) and 04 km southwest from the historic sathmatha of Bogura town..

The medical college was inaugurated on 05 November 1992. Initially, it was started in the campus of old Medical Assistant Training School (MATS), now Institute of Health Technology (IHT), Bogura and 250 bedded Mohammad Ali Hospital was used as teaching hospital. At that time, its named was Bogra Medical College. Later it was re-named as Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC), after the name of Shaheed president Ziaur Rahman, who born in Bogura district. Later on, the present beautiful college and hospital campus (Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital) was built and all activities were shifted in the campus on 31 August 2006.


It may be mentioned that Bogra Medical College was first established in 1980 in the MATS campus and 50 students were admitted in 1st year MBBS. But in 1982, this college was abolished and its students were shifted to the nearby medical colleges.

After beginning its journey, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital has established itself a very strong and important medical institute and service provider in the northern area of the country.
